Spiritual Teacher

Foreword: A Compelling Teaching That You Can Get Your Teeth Into

There is a common theme of simple truth running through John’s teaching that makes it infinitely accessible to all who partake of it.

The theme is that of inner wisdom; a practice-developed awareness of the real being within – the one ‘hub’ that all the spokes of John’s life skills teaching approaches are based upon.

For anyone engaging in John’s material, as I have been delighted to do, it doesn’t take long to realise that this one thread, or principle, runs throughout each of the teaching areas; be it listening to the body, wisdom insight for relationships, John’s self-esteem and charisma teachings, emotional intelligence, or any other.

Rather than being simply a collection of detached approaches floating around in the ether, each spoke is born from the same wheel of spiritual – or simply life – insight; the realm of the deeper self-knowing awareness of the authentic self. And this makes for a very powerful and compelling message, specificaly because it is so consistent across all of it’s categories. And that makes it much easier for people to use to either grow and transform, or to heal, or both.

John is a substantial Spiritual Teacher of some thirty plus years, and has visited more than fifty different countries during that time, working with different cultures, and presenting on the timeless topic of life, and how to live it. He is influenced by, and has worked with three true late greats of the spiritual and personal development world; Sir George Trevelyan, the teacher, Paul Solomon, and the enlightened Tamo-san, the first person in 500 years to be recognised as fully enlightened by the heads of Buddhism and Shintoism, and the then Emperor of Japan.

Here is John to say a few words on the subjects of your inner potentials, spiritual teaching in relation to society and the world, and his own interpretation of what it means to be a Spiritual Teacher in the 21st century…

A Message from John to All of Us

To be considered or referred to as a spiritual teacher is rather an enigma to me, especially as I having spent most of my working life as a professional singer, actor and recording artist, in an industry renowned for drink, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. In retrospect, I can now honestly say that it was my intuitive sense of a set of higher integral values which I often failed to fully value, understand or utilise, that kept me safe from my own ego’s frailties and temptations throughout, even when I felt that I had just flunked it!

I consider myself to be an ordinary bloke who has been blessed with a life full of extraordinary experiences! It is the richness of my life’s experience (in particular often the most intimately personal struggles) that in some mystical, yet practical and experiential way, continues to transform me into what I would refer to as a more holistically conscious and self-aware human being, and from this consciousness a far greater understanding of the mystery of life and our place within it is emerging for me. I would even say it is an evolutionary process within Nature that is taking place within all of us.

Part of me still finds it amazing that I am able even now to make such an objective observation of myself, my life and the transformation in consciousness that life has and still is taking me through, from the inside out! I am not sharing any of these things with the intention of saying look at me! Quite the contrary: I am expressing it in the hope of drawing attention to the fact that, whether we are aware of it or not, we are all on an amazing alchemical journey from the unconscious ego to becoming a conscious and eventually fully-conscious, Enlightened and fully-evolved Human Being! It appears that the process of self-enlightenment requires the return to innocence or the purification of the Ego until it is predominantly selfless in its nature. The Ego/Personality/Character then becomes the instrument through which only the highest qualities of the human Spirit and potential geniuses may shine.

What an Amazing revelation appears to be unfolding in and throughout all of humanity!

The inspired visionary, Christopher Fry, was aware of this when he penned:

The human heart can go the lengths of God.
Dark and cold we may be, but this is no winter now.
The frozen misery of Centuries breaks, cracks, begins to move;
The thunder is the thunder of the floes, the thaw, the flood, the upstart of spring.

Thank God our time is now when wrong comes up to face us everywhere,
never to leave us until we take the longest stride of soul men ever took.
Affairs are now soul size. The enterprise is exploration into God.
Where are you making for? It takes so many years to wake but will you wake for pity’s sake.

A realization is dawning that we truly are Amazing Beings, and in the process of that self-discovery and self-liberation are discovering an ability to create and use our own darkness and ignorance as a reference point for truth and self-enlightenment. It seems to me that the only thing that is fundamentally missing that would help us all to collectively rise to the occasion is a lack of enlightened education systems and forums that are headed up by leaders and teachers who themselves are aware of their own place within the Global school of self-enlightenment and are themselves teaching from that perspective. I am particularly fired up around this possibility, because I was dyslexic, and therefore considered to be an intellectual failure at school. I was bottom of the bottom class throughout most of my school years and, for me, the experience felt like living in a brain without light!

jc14But just as we see in nature that the sun is always shining even when it is hidden behind dark clouds, so we can discover that life is a paradoxical experience, for in the human sense, the shadows of unenlightened thought and imaginative processes pass over the light of truth to obscure potential genius and revelation.

  • When I am close to nature it’s as if my whole being, mind, body and soul finds a renewed lease of life, it is such a deeply subtle yet profound experience that it is beyond the reach of words to explain. During and after such experiences I am lead to wonder WHY on earth we would even want to cut ourselves off from our natural way of being in exchange for what amounts to purely selling our souls for a man made concepts of happiness?
